Carpentry Student Clinches First Place in Regional Skills USA Competition

Scott Edgett, a junior at Mattituck-Cutchogue Jr.-Sr. High School, clinched first place in the regional Skills USA competition, sponsored by Western Suffolk BOCES on March 18 and held at Suffolk County Community College’s Brentwood campus. Scott competed in a range of areas, including tool safety and identification, reading blueprints, layout, precision measuring, cutting and drywall.
The district is excited by the progress and dedication of the students enrolled in the newly offered Carpentry/Residential Construction and Home Improvement Program classes who made their debut in this competition. The students competed against talented carpentry students from Nassau and Suffolk county schools. This achievement is a testament to teacher Adam Tesoro, the hard work and dedication of the students and the incredible potential of the new program.
