The ENL program offers English learners instruction and support at every level of language acquisition.  We provide both a push- in model, as well as stand-alone services depending on the individual needs of the student. Students at the Entering and Emerging levels participate in a stand-alone program; students at the transitional through commanding levels are supported by an ENL teacher who works collaboratively with the classroom teacher on grade level curriculum.

Explanation of NYSITELL and NYSESLAT:

The purpose of the NYSITELL (New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners) is to assess the English language proficiency of new entrants whose home language is a language other than English, as indicated on their Home Language Questionnaire. It is used to determine if the student is in need of English as a New Language (ENL) services. Based on the NYSITELL results, students will be categorized into one of five levels (Entering, Emerging, Transitioning, Expanding and Commanding), which will determine the number of hours of services each student will receive.

The New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) is designed to annually assess the English language proficiency of all English Language Learners (ELLs) enrolled in grades K-12.  The NYSESLAT continues New York State's efforts to provide English Language Learners with a test that is consistent with the Common Core, the New Language Progressions, and current advances in the field of language assessment.
